Romans 3:23 For all have
sinned, and come short of the glory of God.
The above verse illustrates with great clarity the situation of man before receiving Jesus as his Lord and as his Savior.
Come short of the glory of God, means to have lost the right to God Himself, that is, to have lost the right to the presence, protection, care and inheritance of God, which is ETERNAL LIFE .
Losing eternal life is a terrible thing and is actually the worst consequence or the worst punishment that man could have, because of his choices and attitudes.
Without repentance, without changes in attitudes and without obedience to God, man still persists in this path of destruction, as he despises Jesus' sacrifice on the cross.
In Luke 5:1-11, God shows us how our life must be transformed by his POWER and his WORD and the attitudes we must have to live in communion with Him.
Peter, before following Jesus, was a fisherman and a one day, near the lake of Gennesaret in Galilee, he had an encounter with Jesus, and that encounter would change his life radically.
Jesus was there preaching to a crowd that was pressing him, so He got on Peter's boat and asked Peter to push the boat out a little from the land, so that He had more space so that everyone could see and hear him better.
Luke 5:1-3 And it came to
pass, that, as the people pressed on him to hear the word of God, he stood by
the lake of Gennesaret, and saw two ships standing by the lake: but the
fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets. And he entered
into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust
out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the
ship. And, sitting down, the people taught from the boat.
AMAZING THINGS BEGAN TO HAPPEN WITH PETER FROM THAT MEETING AS A RESULT OF HIS ATTITUDES:
Peter's first attitude: TO HAVE ALLOWED JESUS TO USE HIS BOAT:
The words of Jesus, during that preach, had already deeply touched Peter's heart.
Everyone who stands up to help the work of God, with his goods or his work, receives the due reward, often as it was with Peter, receiving the right and unequivocal guidance on the path of blessing, without any chance of giving wrong. See:
Right after Jesus finished his speaking, He asked Peter to cast his nets back into the sea, in deep waters for fishing.
Luke 5:4 Now when he had
left speaking, he said to Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your
nets for a draught.
Although Peter was already tired, as he had already worked all night and had not caught any fish, he said to Jesus:
Luke 5:5 And Simon
answering said to him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken
nothing: nevertheless at your word I will let down the net. However, trusting your Word, I will cast the nets.
Peter's second attitude: TO HAVE RECOGNIZED JESUS AS A MASTER:
Peter clearly realized that Jesus taught with authority and truth.
Peter's third attitude: OBEYED WITH FAITH:
Peter trusted the Words of Jesus, regardless of his personal experience as a fisherman, wisdom, fatigue or the natural viability of Jesus' request.
Then, the power of God was manifested and there was a great abundance of fish and they could not load the fish in just one boat, they had to call their companions to help. There were so many fish that the boats almost sank because of the weight.
Luke 5:6-7 And when they
had this done, they enclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net broke.
And they beckoned to their partners, which were in the other ship, that they
should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that
they began to sink.
Peter's fourth attitude: PROSTRATED AT JESUS' FEET:
Peter recognized Jesus' sovereignty and divinity.
Luke 5:8 When Simon Peter
saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees...
Peter's fifth attitude: HE RECOGNIZED TO BE A SINNER:
Peter understood that by himself he was not worthy of having contact with God.
Luke 5:8 ...saying, Depart
from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.
And finally, the sixth attitude of Peter: UNCONDITIONALLY FOLLOWED JESUS:
Luke 5:11 And when they had
brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.
These attitudes radically changed the life of Peter, who became one of Jesus' disciples and Christ's ambassador in the early church.
Copy Peter's attitudes and reconciled with God, accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior, be a server of God and have an abundant life in this world and eternal life very soon.
Romans
5:10-11 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death
of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. And
not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we
have now received the atonement.
God bless you and keep you.
