You of Little Faith? (Matthew 8:27)

Once Jesus and his disciples were in a boat crossing the Sea of Galilee.Jesus was sleeping in the boat and suddenly a violent storm lashed the boat.

Matthew 8:24 Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping.

The disciples of Jesus in the boat were very afraid, so they woke Jesus and cried out:

Matthew 8:25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!

Jesus woke up and criticized his disciples saying:

Matthew 8:26 He replied, You of little faith, why are you so afraid? Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.

Perhaps you are wondering: But what did the disciples do wrong? After all, they asked Jesus for help to solve that situation.

What's wrong? Why did Jesus rebuke them?

Of course, it's not wrong to ask God for help in solving your problems.

What Jesus reproached there was the desperate search for help, for they thought they would perish (Matthew 8:25... saying, Lord, save us, We’re going to drown), when in fact they should call Jesus believing that that situation would not bring them any harm, as Jesus was there.

See the example of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the fiery furnace, for even those threatened with death could say:

Daniel 3:17 If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king.

The attitudes of Shadrach, Meshach and Abede-Nego were completely different from the disciples on the boat:

While Jesus' disciples sought Jesus' help out of a simple human instinct of fear, Shadrach, Meshach and Abede-Nego sought God's help with faith that He could free them from death.

HOW HAS YOUR SEARCH BEEN?

The Lord bless you and keep you.
