Psalm 119 is the longest Psalm in the Bible, with 176 verses and was probably written by Ezra after the rebuilding of the Temple, after the Babylonian exile.
This Psalm exalts the Word of God, speaking of its beauty and how it can help us to be faithful and to grow in our understanding of God.
In Psalm 119, the psalmist declares his love for the Word of God 10 times:
47 for I delight in your commands because I love them.
48 I reach out for your commands, which I love, that I may meditate on your decrees.
97 Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long.
113 I hate double-minded people, but I love your law.
119 All the wicked of the earth you discard like dross; therefore I love your statutes.
127 Because I love your commands more than gold, more than pure gold.
159 See how I love your precepts; preserve my life, Lord, in accordance with your love.
163 I hate and detest falsehood but I love your law.
165 Great peace have those who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble.
167 I obey your statutes, for I love them greatly.
The Word of God is LAW, whatever God speaks becomes LAW because of his sovereign authority, including LAW is the term most used by the psalmist to refer to the Word of God in this psalm.
The lack of understanding or acceptance that the Word of God is LAW, has been the reason for many evils in this world, generating minds without moral values, people and families dysfunctional and completely destroyed, outside the purposes and blessings of God.
In verse 105, the psalmist speaks: 105 Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.
The Word of God must be the guide of every Christian.
It is in his Word that God teaches us how to act, where we should walk, what we should listen to, how and what we should speak.
See some situations that the psalmist experienced and quoted in Psalm 119:
In afflictions:
107 I have suffered much; preserve my life, Lord, according to your word.
In spiritual weakness:
109 Though I constantly take my life in my hands, I will not forget your law.
In persecutions:
110 The wicked have set a snare for me, but I have not strayed from your precepts.
In anxiety:
114 You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word.
In struggles:
117 Uphold me, and I will be delivered; I will always have regard for your decrees.
Meditate daily on the Word of God, ask God for wisdom and understanding:
Psalm 119:125 I am your servant; give me discernment that I may understand your statutes.
Take pleasure and joy in holy things, in the things that are God's:
Psalm 119:174 I long for your salvation, Lord, and your law gives me delight.
LOVE GOD, hold fast to Him, be faithful to His Word and you will live according to His promises and according to His power and that will be enough for you to be an extremely blessed person.
Psalm 119:1 Blessed are those whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the law of the Lord. 2 Blessed are those who keep his statutes and seek him with all their heart.
Deuteronomy 30:20 and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
The Lord bless you and keep you.
