Shortly after the people of Israel left Egypt and crossed the Red Sea, they reached the vicinity of Mount Sinai.

So, God ordered Moses to go up the Mount to receive several directions from God and there Moses stayed for forty days and forty nights and supernaturally, he did not eat bread or drink water.

Exodus 24:12 ​And the LORD said to Moses, Come up to me into the mount, and be there: and I will give you tables of stone, and a law, and commandments which I have written; that you may teach them.

Exodus 24:18 ​And Moses went into the middle of the cloud, and got him up into the mount: and Moses was in the mount forty days and forty nights.

As God Himself said, on Mount Sinai, Moses received from God the guidelines, laws and promises and also received the tablets of stone with theTEN COMMANDMENTS, written by the very finger of God.

Deuteronomy 4:13 ​And he declared to you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, even ten commandments; and he wrote them on two tables of stone.

And God announced the ten commandments to Moses as follows:

Exodus 20:1 ​And God spoke all these words, saying, 2 ​I am the LORD your God, which have brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

First Commandment:
Exodus 20:3 ​You shall have no other gods before me.

Second Commandment:
Exodus 20:4 ​You shall not make to you any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 5 ​You shall not bow down yourself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; 6 ​And showing mercy to thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

Third Commandment:
Exodus 20:7 ​You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that takes his name in vain.

Fourth Commandment:
Exodus 20:8 ​Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 ​Six days shall you labor, and do all your work: 10 ​But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD your God: in it you shall not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger that is within your gates: 11 ​For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: why the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Fifth Commandment:
Exodus 20:12 ​Honor your father and your mother: that your days may be long on the land which the LORD your God gives you.

Sixth Commandment:
Exodus 20:13 ​You shall not kill.

Seventh Commandment:
Exodus 20:14 ​You shall not commit adultery.

Eighth Commandment:
Exodus 20:15 ​You shall not steal.

Ninth Commandment:
Exodus 20:16 ​You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

Tenth Commandment:
Exodus 20:17 ​You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.

The Ten Commandments clearly demonstrate God's will to be loved, adored, honored  and respected by his people,  that who also honor and respect their neighbors.

Once, a scribe asked Jesus the following question:

Mark 12:28 ​And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all?

And Jesus' answer was:

Mark 12:29 ​And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: 30 ​And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength: this is the first commandment. 31 ​And the second is like, namely this, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

In other words, the essence of God's commandments is:

YOU SHALL LOVE GOD ABOVE ALL ELSE AND YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.
